These things... mixed media

I created this layout in my travellers notebook using some different techniques. I used The Hazel custom cards kit. Using one of the cards I attached it to my travellersnotebook page using washi to create a space for some hidden journalling.

I then stamped a background on the page. I adhered some on the shapes that came with the kit. I also used these shapes to create a background on the opposite page. I did this by laying the shapes on the page and spritzing the Tim Holtz distress stains onto the page. This allowed a pattern to be created. I love using this technique!

PL - Graduation Ceremony

Hello everyone,

This month I'm working on finishing projects that are related to the graduation ceremony while it is fresh in my mind. As it has been important part of my life, I've decided that I won't worry about how many pages I've by mainly focusing on documenting it in details.

First of all, if you haven't read the previous post, I'll mention one more time that I've been working with the September/October Scots Pine Lite and Willow Main kit and here is the detailed list of materials of the kit I used

Scots Pine Lite:
  • American Crafts Snapshot phrase Thickers foam stickers
  • Crate Paper Gather foiled phrase stickers embellishment pack
  • White Cardstock
  • Pinkfresh Studio Indigo Hills Moorland paper
  • Scots Pine Cut Apart tags sheet x 2
  • Jen Hadfield for Pebbles Warm and Cozy Tweed patterned paper
  • Crate Paper Gather Details patterned paper
  • Crate Paper Gather Favorite patterned paper

Willow Main kit:

  • Pinkfresh Studio Indigo Hills Blue Valley patterned paper
  • Pinkfresh Studio Indigo Hills Palisades patterned paper
  • Pinkfresh Studio Indigo Hills Pinnacle patterned paper
  • Crate Paper Gather Kate patterned paper
  • Simple Stories Hello Fall, Piles of Smiles patterned paper
  • Simple Stories The Reset Girl, Speckle/Plus Signs patterned paper
  • Pinkfresh Studio Indigo Hills Diecuts embelishment pack
  • Freckled Fawn woodgrain washi tape
  • Ephemera Tags embellishments
  • Ephemera Squares embellishments
  • Custom cut apart label sheet

Here is the images of my created pages for this event, as you can see I enjoy put labels everywhere, which helps me document and write about the photo. In my opinion I've a very basic method of creating project life pages and the alphabets on these pages are alphabet dies and October Afternoon alphabet stickers, both from my stash.

I hope you enjoyed this post. But before I let you go I wanted to point out that how versatile these kits are. So far I've done 4 project life page layouts, two traditional 12x12 layouts (one of them you have seen in my previous post and the second will be posted later). And now I'm working on creating a flipbook for my pen pal (you can look for it on the weekend). Thanks for reading, Agnese.

Autumn calling!

Hi guys! I know it's been a while but I am back and I have brought layouts with me!
This months kit was very .. Autumn and to be honest this is the only time of year I tend to struggle with in scrapbooking as we do very little, but I've manage to pull a few moment out the bag and I hope you like what you see.

Today we decided to go shopping and gosh was it cold! The leaf paper is absolutely adorable so I cut it down and matted it on top the packaging the kit came in... Who else uses literally anything and everything they get there hands on haha. The photographs are mounted onto the custom cards, using the bookmark we got I slotted that in behind as extra just to add in more layers.

The library type pocket cards we got I have decorated with the wood grain washi tape and placed our train tickets inside to keep the memorabilia safe. My favourite things in the whole kit were the gold Thickers! I already had a couple of packets already so it was great to dive in to them and keep a full packet safe ;)

Here is an overcast view of my layout, I hope you all like it and I'll be posting more during the week.

Titanic

Hey guys, today I'm sharing a post from my summer holiday in Cornwall using some typically autumnal imagery and a spattering of mixed media.
I decided to use the grey Bazzill cardstock to match the grey stones in the landscape and the green is for the grass (I can be very literal). I simply layered gesso and acrylic paint in drips to anchor my photo cluster to the page. The strip of 'So Sweet' paper was to stop the page feeling so top heavy and I love the subtle pattern.

Behind my photo I layered a few sheets of pattern paper, some Indigo Hills ephemera, chipboard leaves, wood grain washi and the phrase 'high five' from the roller stamp. I think the leaves work well despite being intended for autumn because they fit the general theme of nature. I love the dimension of the chunky bobby pin too!

You can see my stamping didn't quite go to plan but that's the beauty of a mixed media page; it really lets me embrace the imperfection. The leaf trip was good to blend the title into the rest of the page and to add some extra texture.
The title 'Titanic' of course refers to the iconic pose I tried with my cousin on a walk. All I can say about it is that we tried our best... Thanks for reading!

Biophilia

Hello everyone!

My name is Natalie and this is my first blog post on the Quirky Kits blog - so exciting! This is a layout I created using the beautiful September/October Quirky Kits. It's titled "Biophilia" because that is the name of the ball that my friends and I went to. I thought the blue of my dress went really well with the colours of this kit, and as the ball was nature themed the flowers worked perfectly. All of the papers on this layout are from the new Pinkfresh Studios Indigo Hills collection, apart from the white and yellow cardstock.

I started off with the stripy paper called "Palisade" from the main kit "Willow", which I absolutely love. I did want to make it the whole background for the page, however it was just too busy, so I cut a strip approximately 6" high to glue onto white cardstock. I made sure my strip included the yellow and light and dark blue triangles, as these are the colours I wanted to emphasise on this page.

I matted my photo first on Pinkfresh Studios Indigo Hills "Blue Valley" from the main kit, and then onto Bazzill Swiss Dot Butter cardstock, which has a lovely embossed dot pattern.

Next I fussy cut out the small flowers and leaves on stems from the "Moorland" paper, and the large round flowers from the "Hillside" paper. I layered these on two corners of the photo and the top right corner of the layout, alongside the lovely gold diecut leafs, which were a Quirky Kit exclusive in the Custom Cards Kit "Hazel". I added some gold Maggie Holmes Gather tiny word stickers, and Pinkfresh Studio Indigo Hills chipboard hearts from the Embellishment kit.

Finally for my journalling, I spent far longer than I wish to admit, twisting the "Palisade paper around looking for an orientation were I could have the yellow and blue triangles showing, but also have some horizontal stripes so I could journal straight onto the paper. That failed, so I ended up cutting a triangle of pale blue paper with black spots from the "Dover" paper in the extras shop, which I journalled on. I then added my title using American Crafts Spearmint Glazed Chipboard Thickers, which match the pale blue in the Indigo Hills collection perfectly, and have a lovely glitter finish with a faint book print beneath - beautiful! I added a die cut from the Indigo Hills die cut pack and some more tiny word stickers. To finish I added some splatters of gold Heidi Swapp Colour Shine from my stash.

I'm really pleased with this layout - fairly simple but I wanted to keep the focus on the lovely professional photo we had taken at the ball!

Have a lovely scrappy weekend, and see you soon for my next layout with this beautiful kit!

#remember Graduation 2013-16

Hello everyone!

I am so happy to announce that I'm a new member of Quirky Design Team, so I decided that my first post will be a traditional layout share with a photo of me, which would be an interesting way to introduce myself to you. For a while, I have been struggling to find a spare moment to scrapbook my graduation photos and also I wasn’t ready. But when I received the kits and saw how beautiful they are, I knew it's time to get on with it finally. Additionally, soon I'll start my first professional job that is relevant to my degree, which means that I need to close this chapter of my life. University degree has been a long dream of mine and finally I have achieved it, there are so many emotions to go through, but when I was creating this layout, it helped to sort them out. Okay, enough background information on the layout and let’s turn our attention to the creation of the actual layout.

I was using September/October Scots Pine Lite and Willow Main kit and here is the detailed list of materials of the kit I used

Scots Pine Lite kit:
  • American Crafts Snapshot phrase Thickers foam stickers
  • Crate Paper Gather foiled phrase stickers embellishment pack
  • Crate Paper Gather Details patterned paper

Willow Main kit:
  • The tissue paper as part of kit packaging
  • Bazzill Swiss Dot Front Porch cardstock 12” x 12” inch sheet
  • Crate Paper Gather So Sweet patterned paper
  • Simple Stories Hello Fall, Piles of Smiles patterned paper
  • Simple Stories The Reset Girl, Speckle/Plus Signs patterned paper
  • American Crafts DIY shop Library Pocket Cards embellishment pack
  • Freckled Fawn woodgrain washi tape
  • American Crafts Jen Chunky Gold Glitter Thickers foam
  • Ephemera Squares embellishments
  • Custom cut apart label sheet

Another point that I believe needs to be mentioned is that this layout was created using the inspiration sketches booklet that came as part of the kit. However, I changed it up a bit - didn't use two pictures, because my picture was printed in a larger size of 7x5 than the usual 4x6. Moreover, I really wanted to add DIY shop library pocket cards on the layout for my journaling spot rather than another photo.

The sketch used was top row on the right side
The first thing I chose was the background paper and the patterned paper stripes I want, as you can see the background I selected is lighter than the stripes to ensure that it is balanced. Each stripe was cut 2” wide and 10” length and layered all of the stripes over each other on the background paper. Then I decided that I need to add bright colour to the background of the photo for two reasons – without the colour, the layout would be too dark and to ensure that the focus is brought back to the photo rather than the background. Moreover, I wanted to add the library pocket card to my layout, but the problem was that those pocket cards are in creamy colour, so to warrant that it doesn’t jump out I added yellow tissue paper behind my photo. Now I have two layers of paper behind my photo and the bright coral colour was introduced, which mean that when embellishing the pocket card I made use of it.

Now just the journaling spot and the title have left to do, to embellish the pocket card I used the square embellishments, cut apart labels and washi tape and also I added stamps from my stash. Finally, this time the title was a challenge for me, as I have never used any glittery alphabet stickers in my layouts before. To find the right balance I decided to use two types of alphabets for the title - black phrase thickers and the glittery ones. After adding the glittery gold title, I felt that I need to add small gold phrase stickers on the pocket card.

I hope you enjoyed this post and I have inspired you to get using this beautiful kit, Agnese..

From where I stand

Hello everyone

I wanted to share my Travellers notebook layout with you today. Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year, so what better way to document it that in my Travellers Notebook. I went a lovely autumn walk and took pictures of the leaves.

For this layout I covered both pages with a lovely orange basic card stock, I then used cards from the Hazel custom cards kit for the basis of my pages. These cards really complimented the picture of the leaves and my boots which I had taken. I cut the leaf design from one of the other cards in the kit to use as an embellishment.

I added some alphabet stickers and the date to the layout. I also used the days of the week washi that is in the kit to add the day I went on the walk. I love this washi!!

I have really fallen in love with using the travellersnotebook inserts to document my memories as its so quick and easy. With project life I often worry i'm going to "make a mistake" but with this format it feels very creative and I dont worry about that.

If you would like to see more layouts and items I have created I'd love for you to join me on Instagram at Laurah22113
